Finally in Florida

After 48 long hours in transit, I'm finally in Florida. The flight from Sydney to New York was actually pretty good - Air Tahiti Nui is definitely the way to go if you don't need to go to LAX. And, I was treated to a little eye candy on the first sector - yep Kelly Slater heading to the Billabong Pro in Teahupoo! After a relatively short flight to Papeete (6 hrs) and then literally a 10 minute transit on the ground, we were on our way to New York. Including a bit of traffic getting into JFK this sector was just under 11 hours - not a bad total travel time to be on the other side of the world! I then headed to my hotel for the night, with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in.

I had a nice sleep in on Saturday morning before checking out and heading back to JFK. After occupying myself for 4 hours at the airport it was time to board my JetBlue flight to Tampa, Florida. Another great flight, JetBlue offer 51 channels of live to air TV, drinks and snacks all for free! So I watched 3 episodes of American's Next Top Model and before I knew it we were landing in Tampa. I then met up with Mum, Dad, Mike and Jeanette at the airport and we headed to our apartment for the next week.

Our apartment in is downtown St Petersburg. This is about 15 minutes across Tampa Bay from the bigger city of Tampa. We have a beautiful condo on the top floor overlooking the Marina and the Bay, and only a few blocks from the middle of town. We are also only 15 minutes away from the white sandy beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. After settling in, we walked 2 blocks to the supermarket to pick up dinner. And, yep, they bagged our groceries in brown paperbags!

The other highlight of the quick stop at the grocery store, was the chilled section.... specifically the icecream - Ben & Jerry's... a whole wall of it!! So dessert was taken care of.

After dinner and icecream it was time to crash... ready to explore tomorrow.
